Pop Up Camping Tent

If you have ever been on a camping holiday before, you will probably be familiar with the old problems of pitching a tent. The poles, pegs and ropes all lying in a tangled heap on the ground, the wind blowing, tempers frayed......

That is now all a thing of the past with the arrival of the pop up camping tent. Unlike traditional tents, which apart from anything else are bulky and heavy, a pop up camping tent is lightweight and very easy to erect and collapse. Usually you can go from an  empty pitch to a fully erected pop up camping tent in literally five minutes!

There are many different designs of pop up camping tent. The two most popular are the umbrella and the coiled tent.

The umbrella pop up camping tent is just that. Long, built in ribs attached to the fabric of the tent simply expand outwards as you push down on the central joint. This gives you an assembled tent which you can then stake down to prevent it blowing away, using tent pegs.

The coiled pop up camping tent is stored in a small circular bag. The tent itself consists of a lightweight frame attached to the tent fabric. The tent works like a jack-in-the-box in that the frame is joined together with a system of springs and couplings. When the strap is undone, the tent simply springs into life.

Coiled tents are usually smaller than the umbrella type, but are easier to use, although this is a minor detail as the difficulty level in erecting either of these pop up tents is practically zero.

Despite their seemingly toy like nature, a good quality branded pop up tent will provide excellent protection from the wind and rain.

The smallest form of the pop up camping tent is the one or two person tent. This is ideal if space is limited or you want to travel ultra light, but be careful here. Some 2 person tents are just that – you can get nothing else inside (think of your gear outside in the rain), and it can be rather too cosy. Two people are often better off sharing a 3 person tent.

The next size up is the three and four person pop up camping tent. This size of tent is ideal for a couple who want to go on a camping holiday. Again, four people will be a bit of a squash, but for two adults or three children on holiday this size is ideal.

The three and four man size is perfect because despite the extra size, they are still extremely light, easy to erect and fold down easily too – perfect especially for those less experienced.

Finally, a pop up camping tent is available for five and six people too. They have not been around long, and they are therefore less common.

However, they are available and are perfect not just for family camping holidays, but also for use as function tents at events, food tent, medical centre, that sort of thing. Despite their size, like all the other pop up camping tents above, they offer excellent shelter from the elements and are easy to erect and fold down.

For sheer ease of use, a pop up camping tent is the ideal camping tent.
